Character Descriptions

For the past couple of weeks we have been doing character descriptions.

I have found one in my book “One Dog and his Boy” by Eva Ibbotson. This sentence described a dog, “The largest was Otto, a St Bernard with a tan and white face ,and deep-set mournful eyes.”

Mournful eyes are sad eyes.

Bear Grylls

Bear Grylls

Yesterday we read a report on the English adventurer Bear Grylls. We discovered a few interesting facts about Bear Grylls:

  • He was born Edward Michael Grylls on 7th June, 1974
  • He got the name Bear from his sister when he was one week old and it has stuck since.
  • He joined the Territorial Army after school and served three years as a survival instructor and patrol medic with the SAS Special Forces Unit.
  • He broke his back in a parachute accident but this did not deter him from achieving his dream and he became the youngest British person to climb Mount Everest when he was 23.
  • In his TV series “Born Survivor” Bear tackled the Skeleton Coast of Namibia, the deadly swamps of Louisiana, the desert canyons of Mexico’s Baha Peninsula, the rapids of Zambia and a journey through the Pacific Ring of Fire.

We watched a few non-gory clips of Bear in action. You can watch the clips again here.

We discussed some adjectives that best describe Bear and we wrote descriptions of Bear. Please add your description by replying to this post.
